PLANES GO DOWN OFF COAST
Los Angeles (CNN)Two planes went down in an incident that occurred on Friday off the coast of Los Angeles, the Coast Guard has confirmed.
The details are not clear, but the Coast Guard said in a statement that two aircraft were seen possibly colliding on radar by the Federal Aviation Administration.
Petty Officer Andrea Anderson said the Coast Guard got a call at around 3 p.m. local time reporting that a Cessna went down just outside the L.A. Harbor. She later confirmed that two planes were involved in the incident, but could not say if an in-flight collision had occurred.
The Coast Guard said it is coordinating a surface-level search while police divers have begun an "underwater recovery operation."
The incident occurred near the community of San Pedro, south of downtown Los Angeles and just west of Long Beach.
